ISMMA Pro fighter Andy Bunso Paves:
Sometimes I forget how much I love this sport. Can't even begin to express how proud I am of my Ivan Salaverry Mma teammates who put it on the line yesterday. With all the major happenings in my life, I haven't been able to get in to the gym as much as in the past. But I am always happy to help our guys in any way I can.
Last night I had the honor of cornering 3 of our MMA fighters at the Swinomish Casino. I was very impressed with how well prepared, poised and classy all of our guys were. My longtime training partner, Beau Maples returned from a 2 year hiatus to show everybody just how good he is...putting together a dominant performance in every facet of the game with 3rd rd TKO. Welterweight brother in arms Fay Bursell continues to convert raw athleticism in becoming a seasoned veteran, storming back to take a decision from a very tough fighter. And finally Manny Russell took a back and forth fight from a very tough opponent to earn a split decision, recovering from early takedowns and coming very close to pulling off several submissions which I believe won him the fight.
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the great work of the other cornermen, Paul Hage and Matt Wilson. It was our first team working as a crew with just the three of us. We all knew what we could see in cage and were on the same page all night. The team didn't miss a beat.
And a special shout out to our boxing coach, Alan Luk, for holding it down at the Golden Gloves in Tacoma the same night. The guy trains like a maniac and still makes time to coach all of us huggers. A true bad ass and team player.
Great work fellas. I know Papa Ivan is proud!
